Cork-born, Dublin-based DJ and producer DJ DOBREL brings the spirit of ’90s rave into contemporary electronic music. Shaped by Cork’s club culture, particularly Sir Henry’s, and the sounds of The Prodigy, The KLF and deep house, his connection to the dancefloor began long before his first releases. That experience still drives his music: a belief in the power of a room moving together.
Techno sits at the heart of DOBREL’s sound, from raw, hypnotic grooves to driving peak-time and hard techno. Heavy kicks, rolling basslines, acid textures and classic rave elements give his productions their physical impact, while melody and emotion give them purpose. His wider catalogue embraces house, tech house and vocal collaborations, reflecting the range of music that shaped him and his instinct to follow an idea wherever it leads.
With more than 100 releases, DOBREL has built a catalogue spanning labels including Loudkult, Black Hole Recordings, Clipper Sounds, Physical Techno, Trippycode and Overpressure. His release “Cant Half Step” reached No. 1 on Beatport’s Hard Techno Releases chart, marking a milestone in his continuing move towards harder sounds.
Behind the decks, DOBREL combines that same range with an instinct for reading the room, building tension and knowing when to let a groove breathe. His performance history includes Ministry of Sound London, Amsterdam Dance Event and Miami Music Week, alongside regular appearances in Dublin’s underground scene and the IUM Techno Bunker nights with 2M.
Beyond his own records, his CODEX Samples Vol. 11 hard-techno pack shares his production approach with other producers. His Church of Rave clothing brand carries the same connection to Celtic roots and underground culture. Across the studio, the booth and everything surrounding them, DOBREL’s aim remains consistent: make music with character, hit hard, and give people something to feel. Sound is sacred.
